As a child, Shannon dedicated a lot of time performing to promote heart health as part of an acrobatic jump rope team for the American Heart Association.

She later began dancing in a beginning ballroom dance class at her junior high school also at the age of 13 and fell in love with the art after her first day.

She achieved a high level of success quickly as an amateur including becoming a 2-time National Amateur Cabaret Vice Champion, and tying for 1st in the National Amateur Pre-Championship Latin at the age of 17.

She also attended Brigham Young University where she graduated with a degree in Dance.
